To cancel a trip

I needed to cancel my much anticipated trip and was frustrated with the "how to". My phone call was returned which set in motion my refund. Very pleasant and knowledgeable agent took care of the process. I plan on rebooking this trip in the future.

Insurance Coverage Evaluation.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My travel friend and I signed on to the Jekyl Island program we opted for the Cancelation insurance that allowed for "any reason" coverage. When our situation changed and we called to cancel we got two different agents.

My partner's agent processed her reservation quickly - requiring no additional documentation. The agent I talked to (same day) they sent me a link to complete several insurance claim documents - took a long time. My companion's refund arrived promptly; I received a Claim Denied letter several days later. Calling to resolve this difference, I was put on HOLD for over 5 hours, ultimately they ended the call as they were closing their office and I was told to call again the next day.

The next day I ended up on HOLD while 3 different agents tried to sort out why my claim was $270 less than my companion's claim, processed quickly and void of any paperwork. They had not provided any understanding of as to how the discrepancy happened nor how it could be corrected.

Poor preparation for Covid

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Oct 15, 2023

Trip to Charleston and Savannah.Great itinerary, group friendly, guides well informed and helpful. I thought with the group geared to seniors that there would be stricter Covid guidelines.

Nope!. Bare minimum. Just proof of original vaccine. No temps taken, no recent self testing prior to joining tour, no testing in situ.

We sat in large groups, 3o plus on tour, travelled on buses and no encouragement to mask up on buses, or lectures. About 12 of us ended up with Covid. I missed half the tour, along with others. I was very disappointed that the attention to physical safety and mobility accommodations didn't extend to Covid precautions.

We were only required to mask on bus after a few started falling ill. Too bad. Road Scholar.

seemed to be the answer to single travel. Even the leaders were surprised how many were sick, and they commented that perhaps the group should have been smaller.

User's recommendation: Wear masks, be wary of large groups. My group was not this size when I signed up!

Your group wasn’t that size when you signed up because they will take reservations up till the day before departure. At this time no state has any protocols or masking policies in place except for high risk places like hospitals, nursing homes and shelters.

And I doubt very much these “leaders” commented the groups should be smaller. They’d allow 50 people if they were willing to pay.

Agree. With how politicized Covid became at it’s peak, I’m surprised OP would ever expect any preventative measures in either of those states. However, I’m sure the tour did pass out MAGA hats, Confederate flags and handguns to open carry.

Im disappointed that there is no emergency line for issues. My mom got stuck in the ER in Canada and I needed to rebook her flight home. I went through air Canada but they couldnt do anything so advised I go through the travel agency but theyre only open Monday through Friday which was unhelpful given this happened on a Saturday. So my moms stuck out of the country and Im not sure how to get her home. Very helpless feeling.

No email on my flight schedule

I didn't receive my flight details for an upcoming trip, but a friend did so I called to get mine. Your costumers service person was very helpful and I received my flight details right away. I am not sure if I deleted my original email or that it wasn't sent. Thanks!

I cannot contact anyone at Roads Scholar to find out if I still have a reserved flight to

Is the tour cancelled that I tried to enroll in? I need confirmation of my trip to Italy beginning May 20th, leaving Seattle WA. Phone number given is not operating. Every indication I can find online is of horrible customer service and it feels the company is going out of business. Im going elsewhere now

Canceled trip due to husband being hospitalized. Understand that road scholar feels ok keeping money we paid for their part of trip but should refund airfare as it was travel was provided through American Airlines not road Scholar airlines. Have received nothing and cannot seem to even get in contact with them!!

Customer service came on the call quickly and helped me efficiently and was very pleasant. Website should quickly and easily tell you what your program ID, order number and price of trip as soon as you click on the trip that youre going on. When ordering trip insurance, the program ID and other trip data should be automatically provided.

False info on cancellation insurance

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
When I had to pull out of a recent grandparent trip (#20349) because of Covid I was told I still owed a $700. cancellation fee. I said that can't be because we paid a lot of money for cancellation insurance. I was told to take it up with the insurance company, AON. That was a time consuming exercise in frustration. After finally speaking to an agent after first struggling to get information on line, I was told it was Road Scholar that collects that fee. This is highly unfair. We were led to believe that in case of illness we would be protected.

I received a call from RS shortly after posting on ‘pissedconsumer’. No resolution as yet - hopefully soon but still very disappointed in RS policy and length of time it takes to resolve issues

Terrible service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We booked 2 august - September trips to Europe with Road Scholar 6 months ago. We have called more than 40 times to review some questions, especially about transportation, and No One has called us back! We have taken many trips with them but we will NEVER ago again. Their email replies were close to rude and did not address the issues which concerned us.
